Question:

For nearly a year and a half now, the left side of my neck has a large knot mass, and around the 3rd cervical, within the mass is a harder mass. It feels like a large bone out of place or something? I've had an x-ray and ruled that out though. I'm Waiting for my MRI appointment. The pain is cronic, nonstop 24-7. My neck doesn't crack anymore either, (bad habbit), instead, it makes a grinding sound with movement. Over the past 6 months, the pain has gotten worse. I take IB 800 for the pain and it barely takes the edge off anymore. The only thing that I can associate with this issue is a bike accident (fall on icy pavement) about a year and a half ago. Is this something chiropractic care can help me with?

Hi Jackie, the upper vertebrae in you neck have a small process that sticks out called the spinous process. In many people this is bifurcated which means it opens into two prominences. This may be what you are feeling now and often after you hurt your neck you start rubbing the area and discover what you think is a new problem. It may just be this bifurcation of the bone which is a normal finding. Hopefully your MRI has been done and found to be normal as well.
